Passed TOGAF Practitioner? How to get your certificate and badge
A pass result is the first confirmation, but it does not complete the certification process. Pearson sends the result to The Open Group, which audits it and asks you to accept a trademark licence agreement. After that, you can download your certificate and, if you opt in, claim a digital badge.
| Stage | What happens | What you need to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Result | Pearson normally provides an initial pass or fail result within minutes. | Save the score report from your Pearson account. |
| 2. Processing | Pearson sends the result to The Open Group, usually within two business days. | Wait for The Open Group's certification email. |
| 3. Completion | The Open Group audits the result and sends instructions, normally within six business days. | Log in and accept the required trademark licence agreement. |
| 4. Certificate | Your full certification is finalised. | Download the certificate from the TOGAF certification portal. |
| 5. Badge | An optional Open Badge is issued through Credly after you opt in. | Accept the badge invitation and choose how to share it. |
The important distinction
Your Pearson score report confirms the exam result. Your TOGAF certificate confirms that you completed The Open Group's certification process. Keep the score report, but use the certificate or verifiable badge when you need to prove the qualification.
Your initial result should arrive quickly
Most candidates receive an initial pass or fail result within minutes of finishing the exam. At a test centre, this is normally provided as a printed score report. An electronic report should also be available through the Pearson testing account.
That immediate result is not yet the final certification record. Pearson must send it to The Open Group, which says this normally happens within two business days. The Open Group then audits the result before it starts the certification process.
Watch for a separate email from The Open Group
If the audit is clear, The Open Group says it will normally email you within six business days. The message explains how to access the certification system and complete the remaining steps.
If nothing arrives after six working days, check spam and confirm that the email address used for exam registration is correct. A delayed message does not automatically mean there is a problem with your result. Some results are selected for additional review and take longer.
Do not miss the final step
Passing the exam does not automatically finish a full TOGAF certification.
Foundation and Practitioner are full certifications. You must enter into The Open Group's trademark licence agreement before the certification is finalised.
Accept the trademark licence agreement
When The Open Group has processed your result, follow its email to the certification system and accept the required agreement. This is part of the certification policy, not an optional marketing consent.
Once the agreement is complete, your certification is finalised. The certification portal then becomes the main place to manage the record.
Download your certificate from the certification portal
Log in at certification.opengroup.org. From the Resource Center, you can:
- view and download your TOGAF certificate;
- review your exam history;
- edit your certification record;
- control whether you appear in the public Certification Directory; and
- manage your Personal Confirmation Code.
Check your name before using the certificate on a CV or application. If information is incorrect or missing, fix the certification record or contact The Open Group rather than editing the certificate file yourself.
The Credly badge is optional
The certificate and badge are related but not the same. The certificate is managed through The Open Group's certification portal. The Open Badge is a digitally verifiable record issued through Credly and can be shared on LinkedIn, a digital CV, a personal website or an email signature.
You must opt in to the Open Badges programme before a badge can be issued. After your first certification, The Open Group sends an opt-in invitation. If you miss it, you can opt in manually through its badge service.
Current Open Group guidance gives two closely related timing statements: badges are generally issued within six to ten business days of the certification award, and may take up to ten working days after certification is completed. Treat ten working days as the practical waiting point before contacting support.
If you passed the Combined exam, expect one certificate
Passing the TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Part 1 and Part 2 Combined exam gives you the higher-level Practitioner certification. The Open Group does not issue a separate Foundation certificate as well.
This does not mean Part 1 was ignored. The Combined exam includes both levels, but the resulting certificate records the highest certification achieved.

Your certification does not need renewal
The Open Group states that TOGAF 9 certifications and later TOGAF certifications remain valid indefinitely. They do not require renewal or periodic recertification. TOGAF 8 is the exception and has a separate renewal process.
Your knowledge can still become dated even when the certificate remains valid. If your role depends on current TOGAF guidance, keep learning as the standard and certification portfolio develop.
